Salvation Is Not A Trial Basis, It's A Free Gift

John 6:47, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”

As computer users, we nearly all know the frustration of finding software advertised online for “free,” but then after downloading and installing it, we learn that it's only free for a limited time, which is very deceptive! Usually such shady “free” offers end up being only on a trial basis for 14 days or a limited period, and then you either have to purchase the software or it won't work fully or at all. If I had my way, such manipulative advertising would be against the law!

Oftentimes we hear banks advertise that if you open up a new account, they will give you a “free” gift. But if it were truly free, you wouldn't have to do anything to get it! If you have to open up an account, then it is really a reward for opening a new account, and not a free gift at all. This is all deceptive advertising, and dishonest. The word “free” is perhaps the most misused, abused and misapplied word in the English language today.

The same goes for all the shady counterfeit plans of salvation being offered in many churches today. We often hear of these shady “free” offers for eternal life, that is said to be freely offered by God's grace through faith; yet at the same time they falsely advertise that you must “turn from your sins” or “be willing to turn from your sins” (which is effectively the same thing), or “follow Christ” or “make Jesus your 'Lord'” or “commit your life to God” or any number of things which are not part of the Gospel.

We are truly living in a time of universal deceit. It was prolific author George Orwell (1903-1950) who stated, “In times of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act!” That is very true! May I say kindly, yet boldly with all Biblical confidence, that the offer of eternal life is not on a trial basis. It is not limited to see how well you perform, or whether your life changes for the better, nor whether you like it or not, nor anything else. Salvation is a free gift from God, which is simply received by childlike faith in the Good News (Gospel) of Jesus Christ crucified on the cross, buried and bodily risen the third day (1st Corinthians 15:1-6)!

Unlike a lot of dishonest companies and shady internet ads, God is totally upfront and honest in His offer of eternal life. There are no hidden clauses, no fine print, and no strings attached in God's terms of salvation. God's gift of eternal life offered in the inspired King James Bible is not a free trial for 14 days! It is not shareware! It is not conditional upon you forsaking sin, living a holy life, amending your ways, or committing your life to God! It is a totally free gift, which you simply receive by faith in the Gospel!!!
