Romans 11:5-6, “Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.”
We live in a nation of liars and deceivers. A common deception is so-called “free” dating websites. Many dating websites lure you in by advertising “open a free account,” but then require you to pay with a credit card to actually email someone you like. That is a horribly deceptive lie! Another common scam is so-called “free” software online. Companies advertise a “free download,” but then when you actually go to open the program (after going through the trouble to install it on your computer), then they require you to pay money with a credit card to actually use the software. That is a horrible lying deception! Something that is truly free must absolutely be and remain free in every way, or it is not free at all.
And sadly, one of the biggest scams today is Lordship Salvation. Teachers of this damnable heresy advertise upfront that salvation is only by God's grace, which cannot be merited or earned. They say that eternal life is a gift, and that it is only received by God's grace. But then, just like the dishonest dating websites and dishonest software sellers, they change the terms of the agreement and require payment from you! This is how the Devil operates! This is Satan's M.O. (his method of operation). John 8:44-45, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.” The Devil is a beautiful liar!
The Devil came to Eve in the form of a serpent in the Garden of Eden. He advertised that she could become equal with God for free, just by disobeying Him. Eve signed up for Satan's deal, just like millions of victims sign up for a “free” dating profile, or download some advertised “free” software. But then payment became due, and Eve found out that the serpent's “free” deal ended up costing her everything! She lost paradise and eternal life! Oh how the Devil is a beautiful liar! Satan shows us the bright neon lights of Sin City, but he doesn't take us to the cemeteries, morgues, courts, hospitals, collection agencies and rehabilitation centers. Sin fascinates and then it assassinates! Sin thrills and then it kills!
The proponents of Lordship Salvation are lying deceivers—just like the lying Devil, the shady dating companies, and the unethical software schemers. Teachers of Lordship Salvation advertise that God's grace is “free,” but then by the time they end their pitch, you're required to forsake your sins, surrender all to Christ, and turn your life over to follow Him. They lied to you! That is exactly why God put Romans 11:6 into the Bible. Romans 11:6, “And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.” Salvation absolutely CANNOT be by grace if it requires works.
A common lie told today is that telling someone to “repent of sin” is not a work. But it sure is a work! If you must be willing to turn away from your past sinful ways to be saved, then eternal life cannot be free, can it? No it cannot, because you have to use your payment card! Romans 11:6 makes this adamantly clear. You don't change your life to get saved, you let God save you by faith, and then He gives you His indwelling Holy Spirit, Who begins to work within you. The purpose of God's law is to show humanity our sins, but not to convince us to attempt to turn from them to be saved (Romans 3:19-20). The unbiblical requirement to “repent of your sins,” is effectively trying to keep the law to get saved. This heresy has absolutely infected our Bible colleges, churches and rescue missions today.
