Galatians 1:6-7, “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.”
There is a website called pursuingthepursuer.org, promoting the heretical articles of four Bob Jones University graduates: Caleb Phelps, Aaron Berry, Ben Hicks and Michael Conn. On their joint website, they pervert the Gospel, adding the unbiblical requirement to “repent of our sins” to be saved. Ladies and gentleman, there is not one verse in the King James Bible that says you must repent of your sins to be saved. The Bible simply says in Mark 1:15b to “repent ye, and believe the gospel,” that is, change your mind and believe. The Bible does not say to “repent of our sins,” anywhere, does it. It doesn't! What must you change your mind about? Simply, whatever has been hindering you from believing the Good News of Jesus Christ crucified, buried and risen. That is 'the Gospel' (1st Corinthians 15:1-4).
We know for a fact that repentance does not mean “repent of our sins,” because in the entire Gospel of John the word “repent” is not mentioned even once. The purpose for the writing of John is to get people saved. John 20:31, “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” So wherever repentance is, it must already be included in believing, otherwise John would have written to repent AND believe. Jesus said in John 6:47, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” We must not take one obscure passage of Scripture from Mark 1:15, to contradict hundreds of clear passages of Scripture.
Totally contrary to Bob Jones University and their shameful graduates today, Dr. Bob Jones Sr. (1883-1968) himself was 100% correct on the Gospel. Read carefully what Dr. Jones said in 1944, and please notice that no mention is made of repenting of your sins:
“God gives you eternal life when you take Him. Eternal life is wrapped up in Christ. 'He that hath the Son hath life.' There is just one difference between a Christian and a sinner. A Christian has Christ and a sinner does not have Him. That is the only difference. All you need is Jesus. It is all in Jesus! If you will take Him, He will blot out all your sins. If you take Him, He will give you a new nature. If you take Him, He will go with you along the journey of life. He will be with you when you are tempted. He will put arms of power around you and give you the victory. 'By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast.” —Dr. Bob Jones Sr., “Things I Have Learned: Chapel Talks,” page 223; Bob Jones University Press, ©1945
I have read the entire book by Dr. Bob Jones Sr. titled: “THINGS I HAVE LEARNED” (authored in 1945), and there is nothing about “turning from sins” to be saved. The last chapter of the book is titled, “HOW ARE WE SAVED?” There is no mention of “repenting of your sins” or being “willing to turn from your sins” to receive the free gift of eternal life. The foolish Bob Jones University crowd have been BEWITCHED!!! (Galatians 3:1-3). Oh foolish Bob Jonians, who hath bewitched you, that you should follow another gospel? Oh foolish Harvest Baptist Church on Guam, whom I dearly love so much, who hath bewitched you that you should believe another gospel? Galatians 4:16, “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?” Yes, that is exactly why we are enemies today. I have kindly offered to make peace with them every step of the way, since 2014, but they have thrown me under the bus every time, holding onto their wicked pride and damnable heresy. I will be 100% vindicated in eternity (Romans 3:4).
Sadly, Caleb Phelps, Aaron Berry, Ben Hicks and Michael Conn are more victims of Bob Jones University's departure from “the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” (Jude 1:3b). Again, there is absolutely nothing in the Holy Bible that teaches to “repent of our sins” to be saved, unless you are using one of the Devil's modern revisions! In Luke 13:5b Jesus said: “except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” This is one of the go-to verses used by BJU, Jack Chick, Ray Comfort and other proponents of Lordship Salvation. Carefully notice that Jesus didn't say to “repent of our sins,” did He. You see, corrupted religious men have ADDED something to God's grace, thus perverting grace.
Telling someone that they must “repent of our sins” to be saved sounds religious. It makes sense to the unregenerate mind. It effectively motivates people to try not to sin. But it sends people to Hell, because this is not the new birth, it is human reformation. May I remind you that Judas experienced penitence (sorrow for sins), penance (he returned the 30 pieces of silver), and reformation (he was a changed man), but he went to Hell forever without Jesus Christ. Kindly said, Caleb Phelps, Aaron Berry, Ben Hicks and Michael Conn don't know what they are doing theologically, wrestling the Scriptures to their own destruction, and those who follow them (2nd Peter 3:16-17). It may seem like a subtle addition to the Gospel, but even the tiniest addition of human effort totally negates God's grace, perverting the Gospel. The requirement to “repent of our sins” presents an entirely different mindset in the adherent, than does the free grace Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Caleb Phelps, Aaron Berry, Ben Hicks and Michael Conn need to repent themselves of their false plan of salvation, or else they will spend eternity burning in the Lake of Fire. If you do the research, you will find that every pseudo-Christian cult defines repentance as turning away from your sins. But that is not the Biblical Greek meaning. Pastor Curtis Hutson (1934-1995) gets repentance 100% correct:
In Luke 13:5 Jesus said, “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” The context of this verse shows that they needed to repent or change their mind regarding punishment and sin. In this passage, Christ was talking to good people who believed that people suffered only because of their sins, and they concluded that those in Galilee whose blood Pilate mingled with sacrifices and those on whom the tower of Siloam fell were greater sinners because they died such horrible deaths. Jesus contradicts the thinking of these self-righteous people and tells them that they need to repent or change their mind and see themselves as sinners, too, or they will perish in their own self-righteousness. One does not have to know the Greek language to see that “repent” in this passage does not mean feeling sorry for or turning from sin.
The reason why America is going to Hell is because churches have been trained to hire graduates of Bible colleges. These damned Bible colleges cannot even get the Gospel right, because they cannot get the Bible right, because their hearts are not right with God. Bob Jones University in 2020 is a cesspool of iniquity—who promote multiple corrupt Bible revisions, and bid Godspeed to infidels like Dr. Steve Pettit and Pastor John MacArthur, and preach a perverse false gospel of Lordship Salvation. SHAME ON BOB JONES UNIVERSITY AND THEIR HERETICAL GRADUATES!!! Like cockroaches, infidels have crept into the college. Steve Pettit is nothing but a slick used car religious salesman in the pulpit, teaching the same damnable heresy as Seventh-Day Adventist prophetess' Ellen G. White!
Tragically, Bob Jones University is doing incalculable damage today to the churches. BJU is training thousands of impressionable students, to go out and preach a false gospel of Lordship Salvation. This is not Bible Christianity! No one sings as well, and dresses as nice, and talks as religious, as the unsaved Churches of Christ, who are not saved. Seventh-Day Adventists are nice people too, and prominent on good health, but are as lost as can be. Unsaved Jehovah's Witnesses, Roman Catholics and Mormons all teach that you must turn from your sins to be saved, just like John MacArthur, Dr. Steve Pettit, Ray Comfort and Marty Herron. Lordship Salvation is of the Devil.
Our churches are filled with tares today, many of them from Bob Jones University, because they have changed the Gospel of free grace into a nightmare, telling people that they cannot have God's free gift of eternal life unless they are willing to turn from their sins. Even if they try to gentle the blow with the less clear statement, “repent of your sins,” it is still not found in the Bible. It is a perversion of grace.
