'The Great Commission' Is More Than Soulwinning

Matthew 28:19-20, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

God's ultimate desire is for EVERY believer to mature to win souls. God didn't save us just to give us fire insurance to escape Hell. God didn't merely save us so that we could remain idle, Sitting On The Premises at church instead of Standing On The Promises in our daily life. God desires for all saints to obey The Great Commission.

Sadly, for most Christians it is The Great Omission!!! The Great Commission is fourfold:

  1. Go ye into all the world.
  2. Teach all nations the Gospel to get them saved.
  3. Water baptize converts as a public profession of their faith.
  4. Teach them all things concerning Christ, so they can go win souls.

The idea behind The Great Commission is to perpetuate the Gospel from one generation to the next. If you were to take a single penny and double it every day for 30 days, you'd have over $1,000,000. It is true, if you do the math for yourself you will see. Likewise, there is exponential power in obeying The Great Commission.

I hear so many Baptist preachers boast of the number of souls they got saved, but how many of those converts have matured in the Lord to go soulwinning? I am not being unkind or criticizing soulwinners, I am simply saying that The Great Commission is more than getting people saved; we are also supposed to mentor our converts, to teach them how to go soulwinning as well. I praise God for every soulwinner. But greater is the soulwinner who trains his converts to win souls too.

Certainly, we cannot save anybody. God alone saves the lost. God gives the increase (1st Corinthians 3:7-9). Our job is to preach the Gospel, and pray for God's Holy Spirit to convict the minds and hearts of unbelievers, so hopefully they will be turned from darkness unto light.

I am leery every time I hear a preacher bragging about the number of people he led to Christ. I won't mention the guy's name, but if I mentioned the name of a Baptist missionary, nearly everyone would recognize his name. I read online where he was bragging that throughout his ministry he has led 200,000 people to Christ. I wonder how many of those alleged 200,000 people saved are attending a church somewhere? I wonder how many of those alleged converts are serving God today, following Jesus as His disciple? I wonder how many of them have matured to preach the Gospel with the lost? I am not being critical of soulwinning preachers, but I have a problem with showboat preachers who go around bragging to everyone about their own success, with no evidence whatsoever to back up their claims!!!

I praise God for soulwinners! But whether we plant a seed of the Gospel, or water that seed which someone else planted earlier, or have the blessed privilege to reap a soul saved to Christ, God alone must get ALL the credit, glory and praise, for without Jesus we can do nothing (John 15:5). I highly recommend a soulwinning seminar by Pastor Roger Jimenez. Winning souls is not an option for the Christian believer, it is a royal command from our blessed Savior (Matthew 18:19-20; Proverbs 11:30; 1st Corinthians 9:16). Mark 16:15, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
