2nd Corinthians 11:1-4, “Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.”
The Bible is very clear what the Gospel is:
1st Corinthians 15:1-4, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
The Gospel (meaning Good News) is three things:
- Christ died on the cross for our sins
- Christ was buried
- Christ physically resurrected from the dead after three days
As I do from time to time, I listened to 'UNSHACKLED' by Pacific Garden Mission today. As always, I was utterly disgusted by what I heard (besides the corny bad acting). All they kept saying is to “surrender” your life to God to be saved, which is wrong. They kept saying to receive Jesus as your Savior “and Lord” to be saved, which is totally wrong. They kept saying to invite God into your life, surrender your will to live for Christ, and a bunch of other junk not taught in the Holy Bible. Tragically, UNSHACKLED preaches about a dozen different variations of the Gospel. If you doubt what I say, please continue reading.
Unfortunately, there are many FALSE PROPHETS today, like Pacific Garden Mission (PGM) in Chicago, who complicate 'The Gospel' in their UNSHACKLED radio series. Let's see how these false prophets make salvation very had. Hear for yourself and weep for their victims! I was saddened today as I listened to Pacific Garden Mission's popular radio program called: 'UNSHACKLED' (program #3589 - aired in 2020 - the Story of Debbie Brooks). In the episode, Debbie meets with a religious friend named Sharon, and they share this brief dialogue:SHARON: Trusting Jesus is the only thing that can make a difference in my messed-up life.DEBBIE: I keep hearing that in church, but I don't get it—how something that EASY can be a life-changer.SHARON: Oh Debbie, it's not easy—believing in Jesus means repenting and asking forgiveness for all the old ways, and then GIVING THEM UP FOR GOOD. When you find the COURAGE TO DO THAT, He'll help you CHANGE YOUR LIFE. [emphasis added]DEBBIE: Huh, well, I'll have to think about it.
My friend Curtis Smale (pronounced as in “snail”) made these helpful Gospel videos...
If you watched the videos, then you heard Curtis say that of the 35 different churches he has visited over the past 5 years, NOT ONE OF THEM preaches the free grace Gospel without perverting it. The Devil has crept into the churches. The biggest culprit are today's apostate Bible colleges. Look at the Satanic garbage theology being taught at Bob Jones University today!!! Folks, Dr. Steve Pettit is not a born-again believer. If you think Mr. Pettit is saved, you're not! No man is saved who requires you to live a faithful Christian life to “qualify” for the “award” of “Heaven itself” (those are his very terms).
Dear reader, the only qualification for salvation is your sin that made it necessary!!! What do you mean that I must “qualify” to merit the “award” of Heaven? Please listen to me, Heaven is not an award, it is a free gift! All Pettit's talk of qualifying, by running and finishing the race to qualify to receive the award of Heaven, is of the Devil. Dr. Pettit doesn't even hit the ball within the ballpark of the Gospel. Go back and read 1st Corinthians 15:1-4. The only reason why anybody goes to Heaven is because God had to give it to us BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH. If God didn't give us eternal life, we couldn't have it! Salvation is of the Lord (Jonah 2:9). Here is a helpful sermon by Pastor Ralph 'Yankee' Arnold titled: 'REPEAL AND REPLACE'...
(by Pastor Ralph 'Yankee' Arnold)
Dear reader, why cannot men leave the Gospel alone, keeping it simple the way God intended for it to be? John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” Jesus is the Door to eternal life. 1st John 5:20, “And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.” JESUS IS GOD AND ETERNAL LIFE!!! So if you have Jesus, you have eternal life. I love how Dr. Bob Jones Sr. (1883-1968) explained it:
“God gives you eternal life when you take Him. Eternal life is wrapped up in Christ. 'He that hath the Son hath life.' There is just one difference between a Christian and a sinner. A Christian has Christ and a sinner does not have Him. That is the only difference. All you need is Jesus. It is all in Jesus! If you will take Him, He will blot out all your sins. If you take Him, He will give you a new nature. If you take Him, He will go with you along the journey of life. He will be with you when you are tempted. He will put arms of power around you and give you the victory. 'By grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast.” —Dr. Bob Jones Sr., “Things I Have Learned: Chapel Talks,” page 223; Bob Jones University Press, ©1945
That was so simply, beautifully and eloquently said by Dr. Bob Jones Sr., with no mention of turning away from your sin, surrendering your life to God, running the race faithfully until the end, qualifying for the award of Heaven, or exchanging all that you are for all that Jesus is to be saved. Literally, these latter requirements are the foolish things that we hear taught by John MacArthur, Marty Herron, Ray Comfort, Kirk Cameron, Paul Washer, John Piper, Sam Horn, Gary Walton, Steve Pettit and countless other corrupters of the faith. No one is saved who requires more than faith alone to be saved.
In fact, you DON'T need to repent “of your sins” to receive God's free gift. I am going to Heaven because I AM PERFECT! You read right, I am 100% perfect. You cannot get to Heaven by repenting of your sins, because you could never turn from all your sins. But you say, what do you mean you are perfect? The only way you can get to Heaven is by being absolutely 100% perfect. Since I cannot be perfect, I need a perfect Savior. Jesus is perfect! 2nd Corinthians 5:21, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
What saith the Scripture? Philippians 3:9, “And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:” Ah, there is the answer! Through faith alone in Jesus Christ, we are made the perfect righteousness of God. This is the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ (Romans 4:4-6). If you were to ask me to suggest a subject to study in the Bible, it would first be the Imputed Righteousness of God. That is how a broken humble sinner like me, with no righteousness of my own to offer God (Isaiah 64:6), can confidently claim and know that I am 100% perfect by God's imputed righteousness, which is by faith alone in Christ. By faith God imputed my sins to Christ on the cross, and imputed His righteousness to me. What a great gift!
Here is one of my favorite books: 'Except Ye Repent.' The book is authored by one of my favorite preachers, Dr. Harry Ironside (1876-1951):
- Repentance: Its Nature and Importance
- The Book of Repentance
- John's Baptism of Repentance
- Christ's Call to Repent
- The Ministry of Peter
- The Ministry of Paul
- Repentance Not to Be Repented of
- Repentance from Dead Works
- Repentance in the Apocalypse
- They Repented Not
- Does God Ever Repent?
- Impossible to Renew Unto Repentance
- Repentance and Forgiveness
- Hopeless Repentance
- City-Wide Repentance
- The Preaching that Produces Repentance
- But Is Repentance Desirable?
Pastor Ironside preached the simplicity that is in Christ, refuting the heresies of Calvinism (aka, Lordship Salvation) and Misunderstood Repentance. You don't turn from your sinning to be saved, you turn from your unbelief to believing to be saved. Since only unbelief keeps a man lost, then only believing can save him.
It blows my mind that Bob Jones University (BJU) today in 2021 preaches Lordship Salvation, which is a perversion of God's grace and an enemy of soulwinning. Dr. Bob Jones Sr. would blow Bob Jones College to smithereens today if he could, and he said so in 1945. Dr. Steve Pettit has irresponsibly steered the college into an iceberg of Lordship Salvation, the consequence of which is that BJU is sinking into an icy sea of the Devil's false Bibles. ....
Many passages of Scripture are ambiguous and open to interpretation, but the Gospel is not one of them. We have a very clear definition of exactly what 'THE GOSPEL' is in 1st Corinthians 15:1-4. The Gospel of John was “written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name” (John 20:31). In the Gospel of John we find the word “believe” mentioned 85 times, but the word “repent” is never mentioned. That is because repentance and believing are the SAME act. The man who believes has repented (i.e., changed his mind).
In John chapters 19-20 we read about Christ's death on the cross for our sins, His burial and subsequent physical resurrection from the dead after three days. This is the Gospel (the Good News), by which we are saved, if we believe (Romans 1:16). John 3:18, “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
Can Believers Live Like The Devil?
Most people think that how you live determines your eternal destination. But living bad doesn't send you to Hell, and living good doesn't send you to Heaven, you must believe on Jesus Christ as your Savior! Yes, a Christian believer CAN live like the Devil and still be saved, because getting saved has nothing to do with our behavior, it is solely predicated upon Christ's sacrifice on the cross of Calvary.
Read what Pastor Charles Spurgeon said:
“Christians can never sin cheaply; they pay a heavy price for iniquity. Transgression destroys peace of mind, obscures fellowship with Jesus, hinders prayer, brings darkness over the soul; therefore be not the serf and bondman of sin.” ―Pastor Charles H. Spurgeon, 'Morning And Evening: Daily Readings'
Low living comes at a high price for believers! This has nothing to do with salvation. Pastor Ralph 'Yankee' Arnold addresses this important topic in his sermon called: 'The Price Is Right.' We don't do good works to go to Heaven, we're already going to Heaven, but God wants His children to zealously perform good works (Ephesians 2:10; Titus 2:14).
We are not going to be saved someday, we are already saved. If you are a believer, you already possess everlasting life. John 5:24, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” That is why we can rejoice confidently as God's saints, knowing that our name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
