2nd Corinthians 10:3-6, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”
I think about this helpful text passage of Scripture often. Verse 5 teaches us how to live right, by bringing our thought into subjection to the inspired Word of God. This obviously means you must have some desire to live right for God. If a sinful thought enters into my mind (e.g., hate, lust or bitterness), I am commanded by God to immediately seize that thought, casting down every imagination that exalts itself against the Word of God. The Bible is always right folks! I have only been around on earth since 1967, but God has always been here! God has always existed, and always will. Who am I to go against a holy, omnipotent, omniscient, omnisapient, omnipresent and omnibenevolent God? Not me buddy! I am going to trust Him in all my ways. Proverbs 3:5-7, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.”
Since we are flawed human beings, possessing an inherent sin nature passed down to each of us from Adam (Romans 5:12), we are not always going to obey God. As Christians, we are said to LIVE in the Spirit (Galatians 5:25a), that is to say, the Holy Spirit lives (indwells) inside all of us as God's children (Romans 8:9). The Apostle Paul said in 2nd Corinthians 11:3 that though we have to live in our human body (being in the flesh), yet Paul reminds us that our weapons are not carnal after the flesh, but MIGHTY THROUGH GOD. I love that! Humbly to me, this Bible passage from 2nd Corinthians 10:3-6 simply means two main things:
- As God's children, we are commanded by our heavenly Father to cast down any and all thoughts that are in conflict with the inspired King James Bible.
- When we fail, and we will sometimes, we must take revenge against all disobedience.
Expressed another way, I am to force my thinking to be aligned with God's thinking in His Word. I choose to be as narrow-minded as the King James Bible. I truly feel sorry for the person who has multiple Bible versions, all contradicting each other. I actually heard Pastor Marty Herron, saying to his church congregation in 2014 (at the Harvest Baptist Church on Guam) that he was surfing though different versions of the Bible online to prepare his sermon. Folks, that's like searching through a junk yard to find the best parts to piece your new car (or in Marty's case a sermonette) together. Please use only one Bible friend.
A pastor friend of mine recently said something that I really liked. He said that when a Bible gets corrupted, it's like a stream of water, and everything downstream also gets polluted. I think that is a great illustration! So if the Devil can corrupt the inspired and infallible Holy Bible, then he can corrupt the Bible colleges, corrupt the pastors coming our of those institutions, corrupt the church they pastor, corrupt the congregations, corrupt the families, and corrupt the next generation (who are today's impressionable children and youth). Right doctrine matters; therefore, having the right Bible matters!
The average Christian would blow a gasket when presented the notion that there could be two different Jesuses. That would be preposterous. Yet, why do tens of millions of professed Christians worldwide accept the notion that God has written 39 different Bible versions? Actually, as hard as this may be to grasp for some readers, according to the American Bible Society there are approximately 900 English Bibles in whole or part. Whoa! And if that's not bad enough, ChristianityToday published an article titled: “We Really Do Need Another Bible Translation.” Uh, no we don't! There is nothing wrong with the King James Bible.
I am so glad that God put Genesis chapter 3 in the Bible. In this passage we find the first Devil's Bible revision in Genesis 3:1. The subtle serpent uttered three words to Eve: “HATH GOD SAID?” In so doing, a SECOND AUTHORITY was raised up. God had commanded Adam and Eve in Genesis 2:16-17 that they could freely eat of all the trees, except one (Genesis 2:16-17). But in Genesis 3:1-5 the serpent changed it all around and told Eve that God said they couldn't eat of any of the trees. Satan turned the truth into lie, in such a subtle way that Eve didn't even notice what had been changed, and she bought into the deception!
We are living in perilous times in the world (2nd Timothy 3:1-7), and it will get much worse I assure you. How do I know that? Simply because the Bible prophecies that in the Last Days, things will return to the level of wickedness that preceded the flood of Noah's time (Matthew 24:37-39). Even so, come, Lord Jesus! I am so tired of this sinful world. As redeemed saint, I have learned to revenge all disobedience to the Word of God (2nd Corinthians 10:5-6). I don't want to drop the ball for God, anymore than I already have (and so have you dear friend - 1st John 1:10). But if I do fail, I am going to make a big deal out of it in my soul, and vow to myself never to make the same mistake, sin or failure again. That is what a Christian does! A person who doesn't learn from their sins, failures and mistakes is doomed to repeat them as a fool. Proverbs 26:11, “As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.”
Proverbs 24:16, “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” I once looked up the Hebrew meaning of the words in this Bible verse. The word “fall” in the latter part of the verse is a completely different word and meaning, than the word “falleth” at the beginning of the passage. The former simply means to stumble; but the latter means to walk in an unstable manner. In other words, a righteous man tries to live for God, but sometimes fails, so he gets back up, taking revenge against all disobedience in his soul, determined not to repeat those mistakes and sins. However, the ungodly person is spiritually unstable, desiring to commit sin, and they have no intention of getting back up to please God by obeying Him (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14).
“There is a spirit of discouragement on churches like I've never seen before!” —Pastor Danny Castle, a quote from the sermon titled: “The Lost Generation”
