Romans 4:1-7, “What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.”
I don't like to write articles to refute people whom I also support. For example: I fully support Pastor Steven Anderson and his ministry in Arizona. I love the guy! Yet I have written several articles refuting some of the doctrines he teaches, with which I disagree (e.g., I disagree with the Reprobate Doctrine as he teaches it, and his denial of Paradise in the Old Testament, and that he says Jesus burned in Hell for three days). Granted, I thank God for Pastor Anderson, who is a fervent faithful soulwinner.
Refuting Chett Hensley On Old Testament Salvation By Faith Plus Works
Having said that, I also support Chett Hensley's YouTube ministry. Hensley is a hard working guy, and someone whom I admire tremendously. He may dislike me after this, or perhaps he already did or didn't, but I love him anyway as my Christian brother. Here's his picture and some great photos that he uploaded to Pinterest. I am not Hensley's enemy, nor do I consider him anything other than my friend. But I am loyal to THE TRUTH, and not any man. I even rebuke my hero, Pastor Jack Hyles for teaching the heresy of the Shekinah Glory.
Albeit, I 100% disagree with Hensley's dispensational teaching. Pastor Peter S. Ruckman (1921-2016) was a legendary preacher in his time, and I believe a genuine man of God. I think we all owe Dr. Ruckman a debt of gratitude for his awesome work exposing the modern Bible perversions. However, Dr. Ruckman had some bugs in his theology. I believe he was a saved man. Unfortunately, Dr. Ruckman taught that abortion is okay. But much worse is Ruckman's false teaching that people were saved by works in the Old Testament under the Mosaic covenant. Sadly, because of his popular influence, Ruckman has led thousands of preachers to follow his unbiblical heresy of salvation by works under the law. This is a serious matter!
Kindly said, NO ONE was ever saved by works, nor by partial faith plus works! Our text passage from Romans 4:1-7 plainly teaches that God doesn't OWE anybody salvation! The Bible says if Abraham had been justified by works, then salvation would be by debt instead of by grace. There is not one verse in the Old or New Testament that says, nor even indicates, that people were ever saved by works. I am not a respecter of persons. It doesn't matter if it is Jack Hyles, Steven Anderson or Chett Hensley that teaches heresy, I am going to expose them, just as they should me. It is not okay to believe whatever you want! Right doctrine matters. Peter Ruckman did a lot of damage with his Old Testament (and future Tribulation period) salvation by works dispensational junk theology!
By the way, religious Zionism is another heresy that has been spawned by dispensational junk theology. I know some faithful pastors who adhere to dispensational teaching, and I love and support them. But when anyone starts using dispensational teaching to idolize manmade Israel today (aka, Zionism), or to teach that people have ever been saved by works (or faith plus works) at any time, I am going to nip that garbage in the bud quickly! I don't want to hear any garbage from dispensationalists, about being saved differently during some previous dispensation. Pastor Jack Hyles was right—there has never been a so-called “dispensation of grace,” lost sinners have always been saved by grace through faith in Christ. Acts 10:43, “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.”
In a heretical video titled, “Salvation Throughout The Bible (Rightly Dividing Dispensations),” Hensley teaches that people were saved by faith plus works in the Old Testament. He says people will be saved by faith plus works during the future Tribulation. And he says people will be saved by faith plus works during the 1,000 year future Millennium. Yet he believes we are somehow still saved by faith alone in the New Testament Church Age. Folks, this is one big reason why I reject dispensational teaching!!! It is not found in the Bible, despite what dispensaltisliats may claim, by wrestling the Scriptures. The FACT of the matter is that dispensational teaching DID NOT EXIST prior to the latter 19th century!
In response to the preceding heretical video, this YouTube view rebuke Hensley, with which I fully agree:
Sam Andeli
The devil is a Liar always. Salvation has always been of grace, because it's a supernatural birth/saving, look at Noah. Also, read James, show me your works... Throw out all this dispensational teachings, they are bogus. Go back to the simple reading of the KJV, we need no other book or interpretation. Bless you.
In response, Hensley rebukes him back with this response:
Hensley
Not denying that. God's grace was always involved. Without grace everyone would have went to hell but how God dispensed the grace was different. The "new birth" wasn't until the church age. That is why Nicodemus didn't know what Jesus was referring to in John 3. No one in the old testament was "born again."
What saith the Scripture? ...
Romans 4:2-5, “For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”
Kindly said, Hensley is in denial. He still insists that people were saved by God's grace in the Old Testament, but like Noah, they had to work to get saved. Hensley says in the preceding video that Noah wasn't saved by faith, but by doing the work of getting on the ark. That is preposterous! Hebrews 11:7, “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.” So it was BY FAITH that everything else followed. Noah was saved by faith alone, and not by any works whatsoever. Hensley has been deceived by Peter S. Ruckman, as has Bryan Denlinger, William P. Grady, Gene Kim and others.
Beware Of Dispensational Junk Theology
The only way to “rightly divide” dispensational teaching is to REJECT IT! 2nd Timothy 2:15-18, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.” Right after exhorting the reader to rightly divide the Word of Truth, the Bible says to shun (avoid, distance yourself) any profane (heathen) and vain (empty, fruitless) babblings. The Bible says such babblings will spread like canker (gangrene).
I know some people will disagree with me, but I think anything that is too complicated for a sweet grandmother saint, who is sitting on her front porch in a rocking chair, reading her King James Bible, is something I am not interested in! If I get much older I'll be looking to marry one of those elderly saints! God willing I'll turn 54 on March 5th, 2021. Those older gals are starting to look pretty good! Good night I'm getting old! Seriously, I triple dog dare you sometime to find a sweet elderly godly lady, a seasoned saint, and start talking to her about dispensationalism. Try that and see how far you get, before she either starts laughing so hard she begins to cry, or shakes her head in disbelief at your woeful ignorance, or perhaps just offers you a cold glass of sweet lemonade to cool your wild imagination down!
My beef is not with Hensley, but with the damnable heresy that says people were ever saved by works. If salvation were ever by works, then God owed them salvation! God doesn't owe anybody anything except Hell forever! Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” How could doing works repay the debt that we owe for our sins? Obviously they couldn't. Jesus had to pay the price, for every human being who ever lived. Dear friend, Romans 4:1-7 is so very clear! Romans 4:1-5 speaks concerning Abraham (before the time of Moses), but verse 6 speaks concerning David (who lived during the Mosaic covenant). Clearly, it didn't matter whether someone lived before or after Moses, they were still SAVED BY FAITH ALONE!
Salvation Has Always Been Through Faith In The Blood Of The Lamb
Dear reader, please read Hebrews chapters 9-12, and you will find that Old Testament saints were saved through the blood! Hebrews 9:19-22, “Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood. For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you. Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry. And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”
Each year the Jews celebrate the Passover, in remembrance of THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB that saved them! Exodus 12:13, “And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.” Oh dear friend, people have always been saved BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB OF GOD. 1st Peter 1:18-19-20, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,” People are saved today, and were saved throughout the Old Testament, through FAITH IN THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB!!!
Bible Truth Versus Deeper Life Theology
I am utterly disgusted with deeper life theology. Someone asked me what I thought about Molinism. I said, molinwhat? I avoid deeper life theologians like the Coronavirus!
Kindly said, Chett Hensley argues that since Nicodemus didn't understand what it means to be born-again, that somehow proves people were saved differently in the Old Testament. But please notice that Jesus expected Nicodemus to already know these things, and was surprised that he didn't. John 3:9-10, “Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?” People were saved in the Old Testament by faith. That is what the prophet Habakkuk said. Habakkuk 2:4, “Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.” That is what the prophet Isaiah said. Isaiah 45:22, “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.” Abraham's faith was counted (imputed) for righteousness (Romans 4:1-5).
When Jesus walked alongside the two curious men on the road to Emmaus, the Lord expounded them beginning with Genesis, and working His way through the Old Testament. Luke 24:27, “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” Christ dying on the cross didn't bring about a new plan of salvation, but fulfilled all that the Old Testament had led up to. Romans 10:4 teaches that Christ was the ultimate embodiment of all that the law shadowed in advance. Romans 10:4, “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” Through faith in Christ we are made complete! No one has ever been saved by keeping the law, nor did God ever intend for anyone to be saved by trying to keep the law. Romans 3:19-20, “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
Everything from the Old Testament that Jesus taught those two men on the road to Emmaus, all led up to His death, burial and resurrection. The Lord didn't give them a new plan of salvation, He simply explained the only one which has ever existed, remission of sins through faith in Christ. Acts 10:43, “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.”
People Have Always Been Saved Through Faith In The Blood Of The Lamb
It is important to understand that all of the Old Testament rituals were CEREMONIAL LAWS intended only for the Jews. These temporary written laws were only for Old Testament Jews, who lived in Israel. Colossians 2:14-16 teaches these laws were done away with, nailed to the cross. God never intended for anyone to be saved by keeping these law. Nor did God intended for anyone to be saved by keeping MORAL LAWS (aka, the Ten Commandments). And a good thing, because the Jews broke all ten of them before Moses even came down off the mountain where he received them from God. What utter hogwash it is for anyone to teach that people in the Old Testament were saved by faith plus works! No, they were saved through faith in the blood of the Lamb, just like we are today. That is why the Jewish high priest once a year had to enter into the holy place with the blood of a spotless lamb, and sprinkle that slain lamb's blood upon the mercy seat in the holy of holies, in the presence of God.
Kindly said, David calls Peter Ruckman, Bryan Denlinger, Bill Grady, Gene Kim and Chett Hensley a liar! Romans 4:6, “Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.” Wait a minute! Did you read that dear reader... WITHOUT WORKS!!! God imputed righteousness to David WITHOUT WORKS!!! Great fluffy biscuits in the morning! Let the arrogant wannabe theologians criticize and moan, I just showed you the plain and simple WORD OF GOD!!! But you say, do you think you're a theologian? No, and I don't want to be one either!
“The Lord is not compelled to use theologians. He can take snakes, sticks or anything else, and use them for the advancement of his cause.” —Billy Sunday
Beware of the bloodless theology that says people were saved by works in the Old Testament. Again and again in the Word of God, we are taught that people were saved through faith in the blood of the lamb!
