John 5:39, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
Our assurance of salvation is not based upon feelings, appearances or what men say; our assurance that we have eternal life comes solely from the written Word of God. Eternal security is the believer's eternal life! They are one and the same. Assurance of Salvation is having the confidence that you have eternal life. So they are not the same thing. Many believers have eternal security (eternal life), but they wallow in fear, uncertainty and fear, not knowing that they are saved. I got saved at age 13. I had eternal security. Yet, I worried for the next seven years. I couldn't find the assurance that I was saved.
I later wrote this book about it to help others, titled: “SALVATION.” Something that bothers me is web visitors who continually ask me questions about assurance of salvation, but they won't read my book. I run into this problem all the time with people, and it frustrates me. I recently sent Pastor Jack Hyles' awesome book, “Salvation Is More Than Being Saved,” to a man with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), but he refused to read it for some reason. I think it is because some people refuse to take God at His Word. What they want is for me, a man, to give them the assurance that they are saved. So every time they have a doubt and worry, they look to me with their questions.
When I realized that some people were doing that to me, I started confronting them about it, simply because I had been enabling them. I am not God. I cannot save anyone. My words are only that of a mere mortal man, a sinner saved by God's grace. I tell them that they need to do as the Lord commanded in John 5:39, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” I am always willing to answer people's questions, but for their sake I try to encourage them to get into the Word of God, and to SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES when they have fears, doubts and worries. That is the only way anyone will ever obtain the assurance of God's salvation.
Praise God, I know that I am saved at age 53, and I haven't doubted in over 30 years, because I SOLELY LOOK TO THE SCRIPTURES!!! So many people today are utterly confused about salvation, because they listen to these false prophets like Dr. John MacArthur and Joel Osteen, who lead them astray with Lordship Salvation. It is okay to listen to preachers and read books authored by men, but when it comes down to the final and only authority, you must base your assurance of eternal life upon God's inspired Words. I cannot assure you that you are going to Heaven someday. I can teach you what the inspired Word of God says, but you have to take God at His Word. SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES!!!

It is a matter of faith. Jesus said in Mark 11:22b, “Have faith in God.” That is why the Roman Catholic church is so popular, because it doesn't require any faith, everything is touch, taste and visible to the human eye. Hebrews 11:6, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
