My favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 4:23, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Everyday we hear of people becoming victims, creating victims, and all manner of evil. These evil things proceed out from the human heart Jesus said. Matthew 15:18-19, “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:” That is why Proverbs 4:23 says, KEEP THY HEART; and that is why it is my favorite Bible verse, because we must always be on guard as believers! How do you keep your heart as a believer? I'm glad you asked my fine non-feathered friend.
How To “Keep Thy Heart” As A Christian:
- Maintain a Biblical mindset (John 5:39, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” 1st Corinthians 2:16, “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”)
- Immediately bring every wrong thought into compliance with God's Word (2nd Corinthians 10:5, “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”
- Think About Good Things, And Avoid The Bad (Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Avoid negative and ungodly people.)
- Choose Your Friends Wisely (Proverbs 1:10, “My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.” 2nd Samuel 13:3a, “But Amnon had a friend.” That friend's name was Jonadab, who convinced Amnon to rape his own half sister.)
- Be Very Careful About The Advice You Give And Take (Esther 5:14, “Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and tomorrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.” That bad advice backfired, and instead Haman and his 10 sons were all hanged on those gallows. Zeresh was an ungodly wife, whose ungodly advice to her ungodly husband caused the execution of her 10 sons! So be careful what advice you give and take, because it could destroy your life and get your loved ones killed!)
- Maintain A Constant Spirit Of Thanksgiving Toward God (Colossians 1:3, “We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,” Being thankful to God leads men to obey the Gospel, and believers to live for Christ. Isaiah 17:10, “Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:” We only forget God when we stop being thankful.)
- Always Keep Your Eyes On Jesus! (Hebrews 12:2, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Isaiah 45:22, “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.”)
“A test of a Christian's character is what he does after he comes to the blockade in the road and what his attitude is after everything has left him except Jesus. You will never know down here that Christ is all you need until Christ is all you have left.” —Brother Lester Roloff (1914-1982)
