Matthew 9:16-17, “No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.”
When I was about 12 years old, I went to make a bowl of cereal one day. There's nothing like a fresh bowl of Corn Flakes, whole milk, and the perfect amount of sugar to sweeten it! Yummy in my tummy! Praise the good Lord!!! I made my big bowl of cereal, greatly anticipating that first wonderful spoonful, but something went wrong! Yuk! What had I just shoved into my mouth? It tasted awful. I can still remember the horrible taste. I had mistakenly grabbed the salt off the shelf instead of the sugar! Oh boy, what a dingleberry!
So in my infinite wisdom, I just figured I'd keep adding more sugar until the saltiness went away. In my mind that seemed sensible. I added some sugar, and then more sugar, and even more sugar, determined to get rid of the saltiness in my Corn Flakes. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that you cannot simply add more sugar to undo a pile of salt in your cereal. No amount of sugar can fix a ruined meal. What really upset me was that I had used so much sugar in an attempt to fix my ruined cereal, that there was no sugar left! Arrgghh! So I couldn't have a nice bowl of cereal. No kid wants to eat Corn Flakes without sugar!!!
I think this is an excellent illustration of what is going on at Bob Jones University today. God knows that I love the people at Bob Jones! I very much love my neighbours who are Bob Jones graduates, who work at the Harvest Baptist Church on Guam. I love everyone with God's unconditional love. Yet, I love God and truth first and foremost. The new president of BJU since 2014 is Evangelist Steve Pettit. I had the opportunity of hearing Dr. Pettit when he visited Guam to preach at Harvest in 2014. On January 26, 2020 Dr. Pettit sinfully told 2,700 BJU students that they couldn't be saved in an instant. I was shocked! I didn't realize how far gone the Bob Jones camp spiritually are today. Dr. Pettit heretically said:
“You can't just speak about getting saved, and you accepted Christ, and then that's it! There is a justification; There is a sanctification; There's ultimately a glorification, and though there are three parts, they are all part of the whole, and you cannot separate them. In order for you to qualify for the award, you have to get into the race, you have to stay in the race, and you have to finish the race. If you want to win, you have to run to the end; and winning in the Christian life is everything, because if you lose—if you don't finish—you lose everything—you lose your SOUL. And so, the Christian race is the life of faith that begins, is run, and is finished when we cross over into Heaven!” —Dr. Steve Pettit (“What Does It Mean To Run 'The Race'?” - 11:34)
If you take a look at 'The Daily Platform' (BJU's daily chapel services) over recent months, BJU's speakers have been preaching on the gift of eternal life, salvation by grace, and other sweet titles. They are foolishly trying to dump sugar into Steve Pettit's salty ruined cereal. Dr. Steve Pettit is a corrupted preacher. Although no doubt sincere, Mr. Pettit is helping Satan, by promoting a false gospel of partial faith in Christ plus works. I have even heard him refute the heresy of partial faith in Christ plus works, but then he bids Godspeed to Dr. John MacArthur and teaches Lordship Salvation himself. So that is a big problem!
Bob Jones University is going through theological denial right now. They are slowly transforming from a once free grace Gospel preaching institution, to preaching the Devil's counterfeit gospel of Lordship Salvation. Pastor MacArthur mixes discipleship with salvation, perverting the Gospel. One of the greatest sermons I have ever heard, setting this matter right is by Pastor Jack Hyles, called: “Steps To Sanctification; Or, The Root Of All Heresy!”
Kindly said, Dr. Pettit teaches damnable heresy!!! God's curse is upon anyone who bids Godspeed to reprobates of the faith! Dr. Bob Jones Sr. (1883-1968) believed and taught a free grace view of the Gospel, and he said if he could, in 50 years when Bob Jones College went apostate with infidels robbing the saints of our faith, he'd blow the college to smithereens!
Psalms 125:4, “Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.”
