1st Corinthians 1:18: “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”
There is much religious debate over who is (or is not) saved. There is a fine line between faith and foolishness. Certainly, I am not in the place of God to say for certain who goes to Heaven or Hell, but any Christian can speak on the authority of God's inspired Word. What saith the Scripture? One of Jesus' disciples asked Him the same question I would have asked Him: “Are there few people who are saved?” Luke 13:23-24, “Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.”
Carefully notice in our text passage that the Bible says Christians “ARE SAVED.” The Devil's modern Bible revisions corrupt this passage, to say “BEING SAVED.” Take for example the English Standard Version (ESV) which Bob Jones University sinfully sells, uses, promotes and sanctions, which changes 1st Corinthians 1:18 to say “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” [emphasis added]. Christians are not “BEING SAVED,” we “ARE SAVED.” This change may not seem like a big deal to you, but it is a VERY BIG DEAL!
Tragically, Dr. Steve Pettit (president of BJU since 2014) heretically teaches that, “You can't just speak about getting saved, and you accepted Christ, and then that's it!” Oh how wrong Dr. Pettit is! If you have been born-again by faith alone in the finished work of Jesus Christ, you sure can JUST SPEAK ABOUT GETTING SAVED! I got saved at age 13, by trusting Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, and it is a DONE DEAL!!! Nothing more is required of me. I could go out and live a lifestyle of the Prodigal Son if I wanted, and my eternal life would still be 100% guaranteed!!! If you don't believe that dear friend, you are not saved!!!
The just shall live by faith! John 20:31 “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” We are made alive in Christ, born-again from above by the Holy Spirit of God, by faith alone in Jesus Christ. Anyone who takes God at His Word as recorded in the Holy Bible, receiving Christ's sacrifice on the cross as payment for their sins, believing that He died, was buried and is physically risen form the dead, is saved. It's that simple!!!
I have met countless Assemblies Of God, Pentecostals, Charismatics and advocates of Lordship Salvation, who didn't believe they could continue living in willful sin and get to Heaven. They are not saved! They have a wrong mindset. If you believe that there is something you must do in your human ability, to ensure that you make it to Heaven someday, you are not completely resting in the finished redemptive work of Christ. That is how I know Dr. Steve Pettit is not truly a born-again believer, because he thinks MORE is required than simple childlike faith in Jesus to be saved. All that God requires for salvation is simple childlike faith in Jesus.
“Be on guard against any tampering with the Word, whether disguised as a search for truth, or a scholarly attempt at apparently hidden meanings; and beware of the confusion created by the senseless rash of new versions, translations, editions, and improvements upon the tried and tested Bible of our fathers and grandfathers.” —Pastor M.R. DeHaan, “The Tabernacle,” Pg. 101
